From Cambodia in Bloom to a World of Ideas

My book journey started with Cambodia in Bloom.

It was the first book I created and the beginning of Srey Neak’s Book Creations. I started with coloring books inspired by Cambodia, nature, and creativity. After creating several coloring books, I wanted to see what else I could create.

That led me to The Quiet Garden Guide, a bilingual mindfulness guide. Creating this book was a chance to try something completely different. Instead of focusing on coloring, I explored mindfulness, reflection, and writing.

After that, I created Mary’s Special Letters, a children’s book inspired by representation and inclusion. This gave me the opportunity to explore storytelling and create something with a more personal meaning.

I eventually returned to coloring books and began creating more cute, chibi-style books, similar to the playful style of Good Yeak Bad Yeak. I enjoyed creating fun characters and imagining different worlds inspired by Khmer culture, mythology, and fantasy. This led to books such as Pixel Phnom, Apsara Underwater, Golden Kinnari, and Midnight Apsara.

As I continued creating, I became interested in developing books focused on the Khmer language. This led to Learn Khmer Words and Explore Khmer Words.

I then continued exploring different ideas and wanted to create something more interactive. That led to Khmer Activity Matching Book, which includes activities related to the Khmer alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers, animals, food, family, community, and culture.

I enjoy creating different types of books and trying new ideas. I don’t want to limit myself to just one type of book. Each project gives me the chance to explore something different.

What started with one coloring book, Cambodia in Bloom, has grown into a collection of coloring books, mindfulness books, children’s books, Khmer language books, and activity books.

I am still creating and exploring new ideas. I don’t always know what the next book will be, but that is part of what I enjoy about the process.

What began as one book has grown into an ongoing creative journey.
